Redundancy is not always something to be feared.
Redundancy is far from pleasant and it can create extensive fear and worry but it can also be used as a time to pause, reflect, research and plan for a new and better life.
This can be an opportunity for some real soul searching and yes you might seek a role similar to your last but you owe it to yourself to ensure that whatever decision you make it is the right path for you at this moment in time.
I recall a few clients who discussed their dreams and aspirations of embracing their creativity and setting up on their own. Now it is not my place as a coach to push in any particular direction but instead to hold up a mirror and ask “how does this look, hmm what about this one instead” my client makes the decisions it is their life after all.
Admittedly I was disappointed when they went onto familiar corporate roles but unknowingly the seed had been sown. The dream had been created and it was not going to disappear. It was only a matter of time. Later some reported how they are now pursuing their dream.
It takes real courage and self belief to stop and take a different life direction, it’s not for everyone and you might prefer the tea cups to the rollercoaster ride and that’s fine just live your life as you want but please explore your options as your dream might not be as unreachable as you think.
It’s not all been easy but personally redundancy allowed me to re-train, do a job that I love, be there for my family and of course create my childhood dream and purchase my midlife crisis very own pony.
Your job does not define you but instead your attitude to life!
